Max Sills

From Jan 2022 – present (Advisor – now General Counsel) – Midjourney – An independent research lab exploring new mediums of thought and expanding the imaginative powers of the human species (SF) Midjourney – a generative artificial intelligence program and service created and hosted by a San Francisco-based independent research lab Midjourney, Inc. Midjourney generates images from natural language descriptions, called “prompts”, similar to OpenAI’s DALL-E and Stable Diffusion. For now the company uses Discord Server as a source of service and, with huge 15M+ members, is the biggest Discord server in the world. In the two-things-at-once department, Max Sills also known as an owner of Open Advisory Services, firm which is set up to help small and medium tech companies with their legal needs (managing outside counsel, employment, carta, TOS, privacy). Their clients are enterprise level, medium companies and up, and they are here to help anyone on open source and IP strategy. Max is an ex-counsel at Block, ex-general manager of the Crypto Open Patent Alliance. Prior to that Max led Google’s open source legal group for 7 years.

Janet Bannister

Janet Bannister is the Founder and Managing Partner of Staircase Ventures. Prior to launching Staircase Ventures, Janet was a Managing Partner at Real Ventures, one of Canada’s largest and most active early-stage investors. Janet is very active in the Canadian tech ecosystem, including being Co-Chair of C100 and on the Boards of Communitech in Waterloo, Vector Institute in Toronto, and Ivey Business School. She is also a mentor at Creative Destruction Lab. In 2004, Janet launched Kijiji.ca and grew it to become one of the most visited websites in Canada. Janet has won numerous awards and recognition including Venture Capital Journal’s 2021 “Women of Influence in Private Markets”, Pitchbooks’ 2021 “Female Founders & Investors to Know”, and American Bankers’ 2019 “Most Influential Women in Payments”. Janet spent four years at eBay in Silicon Valley where she helped transform eBay from a Collectibles to a mainstream marketplace. She started her career as a Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble and then joined McKinsey & Co. where she was an Engagement Manager. She also founded and built a successful consulting business and was CEO at a venture-backed start-up prior to joining Real Ventures. 

Diya Wynn

At AWS, Diya Wynn created the customer-facing responsible AI practice and built a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds, including members of the LGBTQIA+ and differently-abled communities. She aimed to bring responsible AI to AWS customers through a seven-pillar framework for inclusive, responsible AI use. After fielding a groundswell of customer questions, she realized there was room to build a customer-facing department to aid with the development and implementation of responsible AI practices. Diya Wynn is a lifelong technologist, expressed the desire for a career in engineering by the third grade. She received her first computer for high reading and math scores at that same time, when not every household had a computer. She continued her education with an undergrad at Spelman College and went on to study the management of technology at the NYU School of Tandon Engineering before also studying Artificial Intelligence and Ethics at Harvard University Professional School and MIT Sloan School of Management

Matthew Cunningham

Matthew Cunningham, an American Industrial Designer, has a 20-year career bridging science fiction and reality across Entertainment, Automotive, Aerospace, Product, Architecture, and Urban Planning. Renowned for his advanced vehicle design and brand futuring, he’s contributed to films by Steven Spielberg, Duncan Jones, and Jon M. Chu, designing vehicles and props for blockbusters including Godzilla sequel, Star Trek: Picard, Aquaman, and The Suicide Squad. Collaborating with companies like Toyota Motor Corporation, he’s developed brand narratives and concept designs, significantly contributing to Volvo’s ‘smart cities’ campaign. As a BMW-sponsored post-graduate student, his innovations influenced BMW’s electric ‘I’ program and Next 100 projects. His work on sustainable mobility, including the Cunningham Syntax, an electric muscle car concept, has been featured globally. A former board member of The Art Directors Guild, he teaches Automotive Design at Art Center College and lectures internationally on design.

Melissa Lee

For over 20 years, Melissa Lee has been the CEO of Massive Black, a multidisciplinary blue-sky creative studio specializing in IP and visual development, artistic R&D, and design in the entertainment and game industries. Since 2003, she has been managing creative and business development processes at the studio, working with clients like Google, Amazon, Woven Planet (a subsidiary of Toyota), and DARPA (an agency of the US Department of Defence). Over her career at Massive Black, Melissa has produced numerous international artist workshops attended by industry leaders, including Activision Blizzard, EA, Hasbro, Riot Games, and Weta Digital. Melissa is an outspoken advocate for implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles in the game industry and has participated in thematic panels, discussions, and conferences for the last few years.
